Q:What is the cold-chain?
A: The cold-chain is a system that keeps the food refrigerated all the way through their transportation, unloading, distribution and cold storage at the site where the food will be used, in order to maintain the integrity of the food products that have been shipped.
Blueline is modern and authentic equipment that has temperature indicators that show you that the food never lost optimum temperature; and if it did Blueline will show you where and at what time the interruption in the cold chain occurred, this will allow you to fix the error and not let it happen again to other products.
Q:What is a smart label?
A: A smart label is an electronic identification device that contains more advanced technologies than the traditional bar code data; for cold chain monitoring smart labels rely data from the product to a database in order to report the conditions of certain items during their cold chain process, Blueline is a smart label injected with a small dot of heat sensitive ink that monitors and indicates product temp along the cold chain. Our technology is accurately and timely, you’ll get the best reports on the best time in order to make it easier for you to calculate the logistics involved in correcting any mistakes found in the cold chain.
Q:What is the main difference between a smart tag and smart label?
A: A smart tag is external to the product and a smart label is placed internally.
It could be said that a smart tag looks like a hang tag, and the smart label is the evolution of the label, more accurate.
Q:What is absorbed heat?
A: Heat absorption is an endothermic reaction. During an endothermic process, a cooler object absorbs the hotter object’s heat. Absorbed heat is the “fuel” of the degeneration process; it’s cause by lack of proper refrigeration, the alterations caused by absorbed heat jeopardise the look, flavour and safety of food, that’s why it’s very important to choose a reputable cold-chain provider.
Q:What happens if a monitoring operation highlights a failure in the cold chain?
A: The alarm is raised and the interruption in the cold-chain is identified so the event cannot repeat itself in future. Meanwhile, we can rest assured that, if a producer or retailer subscribes to our technology, he or she have no intention of passing on or selling unsafe products since we count with the Blueline technology for the best viability and freshness of your products.
Q:Are there differences in how food products are monitored by the Blueline system?
A: Yes, there are. Every item has specific thermal inertia and temperature requirements. The Blueline system recognises the barcode of each specific product and uses that information to calculate the needs of each item measured; our sensitive and accurate smart label is always monitoring and creating reports of every change in temperature that the products may experience during the supply chain.
Q:Wouldn’t colour-changeable labels be easier and provide more immediate visual control?
A: Colour-changeable labels are an easy option since they change color based on freshness, but keep in mind that Blueline technology has many advantages that colour-changeable labels don’t. Blueline gathers data and also records; besides the fact that a single label can monitor all kind of fresh produce all the way through the cold chain. Furthermore, it is hard to evaluate the freshness of an item by simply looking at it or seeing its label changing colors, you need more information such as time of the temp raise and by how many degrees. The magnetic system in Blueline evaluates the information it receives automatically and can distinguish one product from another via the barcode; the data automatically signals a ‘favourable’, ‘sufficient’ or an ‘attention required’ result.
This label has been made to guarantee the freshness of food with specific and accurate information. There is no space for error if you monitor your food with Blueline, and in case something isn’t right, Blueline will let you know and that error won’t happen again, that’s the idea of Blueline, correcting mistakes, it’s all about win-win.
Q:What does Blueline allow me to do that others don’t?
A: You can read data from labels, you will be able to see the register of checkpoints, track each item through the cold chain, and you will receive an alert when something in the readings is out of parameter ranges in the cold chain diagnostic.
Q:How does Blueline software work?
A: You receive reports wirelessly to your mobile device from each product when you pass the pen over the smart label to read the data stored there during the cold chain. You can download these reports to our online software and analyse them, we’ll provide you with charts and graphs of your product’s cold chain and temp levels, as well as color coding of the products to emphasise items that may be in danger of decaying.
Q:In case of cold-chain interruption is it possible to know the amount of time the product remained over threshold temperature?
A: Yes, with Blueline it’s possible and very important to know how long was a product over threshold temperature. In each stage of the cold chain it’ll be possible to verify the temperature of a product and see the amount of time the product remained over the threshold temperature and maximum temperature at the core of the product. You will also have charts and tables showing the thermal damage a product has suffered and showing its effects on shelf life.
Q:What are the advantages of Blueline system?
A: Blueline is a top of the line temp monitoring technology that will you not only peace of mind when it comes to your product and a safe cold chain but also a great deal of other features that will be of use if you need to file a report or fix an interruption in the cold chain. Here are some of the most prominent advantages:
- Verify if the product remained within the ideal temperature and know for how long the product remained over the threshold temperature.
- Analyse in real time the financial impact due to loss (degradation) of product related to cold-chain interruptions.
- Real time data for analysis of product temperature history in production, transportation and storage.
- Through a QR code you may have access to see the last time your products were scanned and verified and that no temperature interruptions occurred to the product.
- Locate geographically through a map where there are more serious problems in the logistics cold chain system.
- Eliminate problems of who to blame in case of product loss as our system will show where interruptions to the cold chain occurred and who was responsible at the time.
Q:Will smart labels replace the barcode?
A: Smart labels are expected to substitute barcodes in many logistics application within the next three to five years, but they won’t totally replace them in the foreseeable future since barcodes can still be made at far lower cost because they only store a small amount of data such as price and expiration date of the product, while smart labels can store all the data collected from an item through its cold chain supply process.
Q:How can I get more information about Blueline?
A: Please visit our website to get more information about our product and how it may help you in your search for a better and more reliable cold chain supply process. We care about your stock just as much as you do; cool products require cool solutions and Blueline is the coolest, safest and more accurate temperature monitor in the market.
Q:Why is the cold-chain important?
A: The cold chain is a vital segment of the supply chain since it involves an extremely vulnerable and sensitive combination of processes that may impact on the condition of the final product. Much of the waste and loss of food in the world is due to lack of proper refrigeration.
It could be said that food safety is a priority for every reputable distributor and there is plenty of opportunity for error if the distribution is not conducted carefully. Blueline will allow you to monitor the entire cold chain of your food products and be aware of any errors in it in order to correct them and avoid losing money and products.
Q:Why should I trust Blueline?
A: Blueline-protected items are subjected to a stringent checks regarding the preservation temperature, this technology is encrypted and tamper-proof. Rest assured your shipment will be safe and fresh since Blueline monitors the preservation temperature of food from the point of production or manufacture up to the point of sale. Our technology is accurate, secure and reliable; there’s no way to tamper with the results of our monitoring system or to alter the reports stored by the heat sensitive smart label, only our customers can review these reports and use their data to fix their broken cold chain.
Q:How does Blueline work?
A: An ink-block is printed onto the product label using special magnetic ink. The ink-block loses “magneticity” if the temperature rises above a certain limit; so, when the label is scanned, the data provides information regarding the intensity of the heat the item has been subjected to during the cold chain.
As the label has been attached during packaging, you will be able to know if the product had the proper temperature since you will be monitoring your products with our accurate smart label. The best part of monitoring your products with our smart label is that you can improve the cold-chain and take corrective measures.
Q:How are checks actually carried out?
A: Checks can be carried out in the distribution centres or on the retailer’s premises. For instance, in the former case we can assume that the majority of the food items are in stored boxes piled up high on a wooden pallet. In those circumstances, the operator checks and monitors the items contained in the boxes that are at the top, and on the outside, of the pile; they are the most exposed and therefore more likely to suffer the consequences of changes in temperature, if these outer boxes are within threshold temp limits then the whole stock is safe and distribution can continue, if a drop or gain in temperature is noted then the product owner will be notified and appropriate action can be taken to protect and preserve the merchandise.
Q:What level of safety is being ensured for consumers by Blueline?
A: Blueline offers complete guarantee that our heat sensitive smart label will detect any raises in temperature of the merchandise monitored and will create a detailed report for later study by our customers. We offer you the best temperature indicator and cold chain monitor in the market, any inefficiency or failure in the supply chain can be corrected so that the cold chain will be always protected. Inefficiencies or failures in the monitoring system are spotted immediately and easily corrected.
Q:How does a Blueline Smart Label get added to a product?
A: The label with the ink-block is attached to the product during packaging, once the label is attached you will be able to monitor the product all way through the cold chain from manufacturing, distribution all the way to retailers.
Q:What is required to monitor the cold-chain?
A: Blueline doesn’t require any purchases of hardware or software, you’ll use 4 devices to monitor the cold-chain of foods, three of which we will supply and the fourth you most likely already have at your disposal.
- Labels: every product has one activated in order to monitor them during the way.
- Scanner: this is required to analyse the data from the label to transmit the data to a smartphone/tablet using android or palm top via bluetooth.
- Smartphone/Tablet (handheld devices): this is required to receive the transmitted data of the product via bluetooth to the android device.
- Online software: Will receive data wirelessly from each product with the smart label.
Q:How does the Blueline alert system work?
A: Our Blueline alert system is automated and it’s integrated with Twitter and Facebook. When the alert is activated because a reading is out of the parameter ranges you will receive automatically an email and a notification by the app, letting you know the failure in the cold chain, you’ll also receive alerts of product recalls.
Q:How will I know if my product had a proper temperature?
A: Our system has cold-chain interruption indicators (green, yellow and red). These indicators allow an easy visualization of the excursions of temperature the product encountered by putting coloured flags next to each product in the database, depending on the quality of the cold chain, within the database green indicates product is in perfect condition, yellow indicates product suffered some exposition to heat but is still at a tolerable level and red that the product was overexposed to heat and must be carefully examined.
Q:Are Blueline reports accurate?
A: Yes, they are. The difference of using our technology versus a datalogger is that our technology will be able to detect if a product actually gained heat and not the ambient. If we take a pallet of boxes, the boxes on top of the pallet will be the ones most exposed to heat while the ones in the middle will have an insulation from the surrounding boxes which will protect them from thermal absorption, this will be identified by our technology.
Q:Which app do I have to use to manage the recall of products?
A: You will manage the recall of products with platform Quash.io. By using this platform you can check the central registry of products and cold chain diagnostics, obtain information on consumers (Social ID), have GEO references of cold chain interruptions and receive alerts in case of product recall. Our platform will automatically sync with your social media profiles and send notifications directly to your phone or handheld device in order to ensure you have all the necessary information as fast as possible, giving you ample time to deal with the issues that might present themselves.
Q:What is the threshold temperature with Blueline?
A: Actually it depends on the product. The threshold temperature will be set product by product, with the necessary parameters to monitor the cold chain of said products entered for each shipment and item; threshold temp might vary according to the merchandise, the weather, the means of transport and many other variables.
Q:Who created Blueline?
A: Blueline technology was invented by our engineer Marco Mandelli in Italy. A brilliant mind who decided to create a technology advanced enough to measure not only temperature but time and geographical position as well as keep a detailed record of this data to be analysed and used as a way to fix the errors in manufacturing, distribution and refrigeration in order to ensure the quality of food products all over the world.
